THE DEAL
The release of a new Sony flagship is always the best time to buy the previous one.
Now that the WH-1000XM6 has been on shelves for a few months, we’ve been waiting for the inventory algorithms to finish their "settling phase." This morning, the data hit our target: the Sony WH-1000XM5 is now consistently listed at $278.
Why this is the "Dealist" pick: At its launch price of $399, the XM5 was a luxury investment. At $278, it is a mathematical outlier. You are getting 95% of the performance of the new XM6 for roughly 65% of the price.
The "Price-to-Performance" Verdict
If you are a frequent flyer or a dedicated "deep work" enthusiast, the XM5 is still the benchmark for Active Noise Cancellation (ANC).
The "Legacy" Advantage: Unlike the newer model, the XM5 has an ultra-stable firmware history. All the launch-day bugs are long gone.
The Trade-off: The XM5 does not fold as compactly as the older XM4 or the newer Bose competitors. It uses a "friction rod" design—sleek, but it requires a slightly larger carrying case.
Battery Life: 30 hours with ANC on. Our real-world testing still ranks this in the top tier for 2026.
The Daily Dealist Take: Don't chase the XM6 hype unless you absolutely need the "Spatial Audio 2.0" features. For pure silence and call quality, the XM5 at $278 is the smartest audio purchase you can make this quarter.
Until tomorrow,
